Denim trends come and go every now and then. Because what goes around, comes all the way back around as Justin Timberlake once said. He of course had the biggest denim moment in 2001. “Luckily” many things changed since then.

In 2020 it’s all about high rise and wide jeans. And above all: comfortable! We have 3 denim trends that can be worn on many occasions and are super easy to style with basic pieces you already own. And whether the jeans are designer, from your mom or even thrifted – there are countless options out there and we’ve got you covered.

1. 70’s inspired Jeans

As we already mentioned, the high rise and wide leg jeans are a huge trend this year and already has been in the 70s. Even though it’s getting warmer now, flared jeans are optimal for chic office outfits or rainy / colder days. We love to style it with basic pieces such as a muscle tee for an effortless feel just like Sandra on the picture or a crisp white button up shirt for a more chic look. Then style it with a black leather belt to accentuate your waist and you’re ready to go.

This style is often considered ‘difficult’ for shorter people… we say no – you just need some courage, some scissors and the right shoes: style it with some pointed boots to elongate your legs or some heeled sandals. Then fold the ends or just cut them off and there you have the perfect pair of jeans for your type!

2. Mom Jeans

The famous mom-jeans are the new skinny jeans. The basic straight leg and high waisted fit is similar to the wide-leg jeans but more manageable on a daily basis. They come in all different colours and lengths, like the classic Mom jeans from Topshop. We prefer the ankle-lengths ones, which are easy to style with a pair of dad-sneakers or some strappy heels.
For an easy office look, style a basic top with an oversized blazer and some comfy converse. (For some trendy blazers – go check out our recent blogpost) If you’re going to dinner later: swap your sneakers with comfy heeled sandals and add some bold jewellery.

3. Skirts

Last but not least: Denim skirts are a perfect way to show some skin but still look put together. The high-waisted and straight fit allows you to wear bulkier and more oversized tops to balance out the look. For example a wide shirt, and why not try a denim shirt? It’s a perfect match. We like the midi skirt best, like this light denim skirt from Mango – but of course there are many lengths available for any occasion.
For colder days a blazers or chunky knits are a perfect combination, especially with a white denim skirt. Add your favourite pair of boots and there you have an edgy and transitional outfit.
